Daniel Acton, 1941 – 2021

Daniel Acton, 80, of rural Rippey, died Saturday, December 18, 2021, on the family farm.

A service will be held Dec. 30 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction. Internment will be in Mount Cavalry Cemetery in Grand Junction.

Daniel Joseph Acton was born October 20, 1941, in Jefferson to Robert and Helen (Aspinall) Acton.  He graduated from Rippey High School in Rippey in 1959.  He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1963-1969. On Jan 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Fereleen (Roberts) Acton at St. Patrick Church in Perry.

Dan was soft spoken and kind to so many. Others saw him as reserved and quiet. He was devout in his faith, and his family got to see his stubborn Irish side. He loved his wife Fereleen, his four children, and was so incredibly proud of his two granddaughters and loved them fiercely. He was introverted but loved to be social with his friends and knew everyone around Greene County. He quietly donated to any charity that sent him something in the mail…and there were many!

Dan’s pride and joy and love was his farm in rural Rippey. It was his place on earth. He took such pride in it. It is a beautiful and peaceful place because of his faithful stewardship of it. It is our home base, our center because of what he worked so hard to create. Not seeing him puttering around the farm or driving the 4-wheeler will bring sadness and tears. But his legacy will always be preserved in the beauty of his farm in Greene County.

He is survived by sons Chris (Melody) Acton of Des Moines and Jon (Heather) Acton of Jefferson; daughters Heather Acton of Des Moines and Heidi Acton of Columbus, NE; grandchildren Hannah and Emma Acton; sister Janis Johnston of Rolling Meadows, IL; brothers Timothy Sandra) Acton of West Des Moines,  David (Stephanie) Acton of Sun Prairie, WI, and Patrick (April) Acton of Gladbrook; and many nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made to Hospice of the Midwest in his name.

Services were arranged by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson.
